MUSO Decides: Towett, Rathore or Shem

The political temperatures in the campus still very high. A feeling that is much felt in the Chairman seat. This was well exhibited in an interview under a show called Muso Decides, which took place on Tuesday 28th June 2016 at 2pm, by Jim India a student well versed in politics, on 103.9 Moi Radio.

Three contestants were in studio; Towett Ng’etich, Henry O. Rathore, Shem Albert. All 3rd years in school of Human Resource Development under Communication Department.

It was a session where the three had to declare their candidature and openly give their slogans; Towett – Zikism, Rathore – We The People, Shem – We Must Be Great.  Students called in to ask a number of questions, one of them being matters Sports. Towett uttered his abilities in which he promised that if comrades voted for him, he would ensure that players received branded uniforms and that he would strategize for scholarships for those teams. “I have hope for you”, he said.

Rathore spoke to assure that he would fight against all forms of oppression that took place in administration building and hostels. “Sports people, I can assure you that if I be the next chairperson, your interest is catered for.”

Tribalism was an issue well discussed too; each of them showing their high detestation for tribal-based elections. Rathore with the help of a screenshot, read out a message that allegedly portrayed Shem as interested in Mulembe House only – people from Western, which is his native land. Shem had posted on a social platform that “I am vying as the next MUSO chairperson considering the fact that Luhyas have never claimed the top seat despite their numbers.” Responding to this, Shem said that the message was just a political language. He added to say that Rathore was majoring on social media and used parody accounts for political purposes at hand, an activity that ‘wouldn’t add up’, as Shem put it.

Shem went ahead to say that Rathore was ‘forced’ to go for chairman docket by a number of political leaders in the school and actually naming them; David Sanchez, Jairo Moses,Victor Brian & Oliver Bill. He said that on one Saturday, Rathore went to mabz and bought chicken for his four advisors and that is when they convinced him to go for nothing less than Chairman. Owing to these allegations, Towett, after a long silence, spoke up and said that the two (Rathore & Shem), should not attack one another especially in public. “Desist from negative politics.” he said.

As if it was not enough, Shem addressed himself to Rathore telling him “so many things we can bring on board about you”, a statement that was not pleasant according to the audience. During the previous elections, Shem was Rathore’s Personal Assistant, which he used as a justification that he knew a lot of secrets about Rathore.  Rathore on the other hand felt that Shem’s political strategies were not original, claiming that he learnt about politics during their political classes in the previous elections. It was all clear that Towett remained neutral as the other two continued to do ‘politics’ in studio. Critics and praises came hand in hand for each of the aspirants.
After the interview, “..atleast now i can tell who is a leader between the three..” a student said.

Last words:

Towett – “Comrades thankyou for hosting us. My name is Towett Ng’etich…I stand with you, I hope the same way I stand with you is the same way you stand with me. And I place my candidature before you, urging you to vote for me as the next MUSO chairman…”

Rathore – “I am not vying because Luos have missed this position in the past….i stand for the marginalized, oppressed, exploited. …I am the Ombudsman, vote for me as the next MUSO Chairman.”

image

Shem – “…I want to thank all comrades for allowing us to be on air…Shem is coming to vie not from any pressure from any corner…but out of your trust that you have in me…I am also taking this opportunity to seek for your support…”
